The American Chamber of Commerce held yesterday a networking event at the beautiful premises of the Cyprus American Archaeological Research Institute (CAARI) with a delegation of U.S. Congress Staff, representing important Congress Members both from the Republican and Democratic Parties.
Mr. Dan Mangis, Chargé d’ Affaires ad interim at the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our members joined us in an event aimed at promoting dialogue, engagement and strengthening ties between Cyprus and the U.S.
An event fully aligned with AmCham’s mission aimed at promoting economic development, fostering collaboration between the business communities and promoting bilateral trade and investment between the two countries.
There was a shared assessment that the powerful ties that bind Cyprus and the U.S together have grown even stronger through a multitude of tangible deliverables unfolding on several fronts.
Further, discussions centred on Cyprus being finally admitted to the US Visa Waiver Programme, as well as to a combination of other actions that will positively contribute to making investments flow easier and smoother to Cyprus and strengthen people-to-people relations between Cyprus and the United States, such as, amongst others:
- Updating the double tax treaty which has now been in force for over 40 years.
- Improving air connectivity and enhancing tourism flows through establishing direct flights.
- The conclusion of a bilateral Social Insurance Benefits Transfer agreement.
- Establishing student exchanges and internship programs for students or graduates from universities of both countries.
