AmCham Cyprus proudly participated at the US Embassy Independence Day, and we were honoured to join the Sponsor Team of such a memorable event in celebration of the US Independence Day and the thriving partnership between Cyprus and the US.
In her speech, Ambassador Davis highlighted the guiding principles of the Declaration of Independence and their relevance in today’s world. She also expressed gratitude to the University of Cyprus for hosting the event and to the sponsors for their support. The speech also touched on the Ambassador’s recent work in Kyiv and the collaboration with Cypriot colleagues in various fields, including cyber defense, crisis management, and disaster response.
Ambassador Davis praised the historic steps forward in the bilateral relationship between the two countries, including the first Strategic Dialogue and visits to the White House and other key locations in the United States. The economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries was also stressed, with American companies leading significant projects in Cyprus.
The speech concluded with a call for diplomacy to advance peace in ongoing conflicts, including the division of Cyprus, and a message of optimism for the future of the bilateral relationship.
During his remarks, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, highlighted the strong and growing bond between Cyprus and the USA, emphasizing shared values such as freedom, courage, and democracy. The President acknowledged the pivotal role of the USA in shaping a safer and more secure world, from historical contributions during the World Wars to recent diplomatic achievements.
He stressed that the partnership between Cyprus and the USA is built on trust, shared values, and common purpose, with Cyprus positioned as a stable democracy and reliable strategic partner in the Eastern Mediterranean. The President underscored Cyprus’s role in promoting stability, peace, and prosperity in the region, citing examples of cooperation in crisis management and disaster response.
Significant milestones in US-Cyprus relations over the past year were emphasized, including the launch of the Cyprus-US Strategic Dialogue, the first official visit by a Cypriot President to the White House in nearly 30 years, and Cyprus’s participation in US security assistance programs. The President also put emphasis on the importance of economic and commercial cooperation, noting efforts to attract American businesses to Cyprus.
