An engaging discussion was held today between the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Mr. George Papanastasiou, and AmCham Cyprus’ members. The discussion was part of the successful breakfast series hosted on a regular basis by AmCham. The event took place at Hellenic Bank’s Headquarters, which we sincerely thank for its hospitality.
During the discussion, the Minister updated AmCham Cyprus’ members about the latest developments regarding energy issues, both in terms of the ongoing contracts with Chevron and ExxonMobil, as well as for the Ministry’s vision and commitment to the green transition, combined with the development of the “Great Sea Interconnector” and the liberalization of the Electricity market.
In terms of the bilateral economic, trade and investment relations between the US and Cyprus, the Minister and AmCham members discussed and commented on the latest statistics.
While both agreed on the great progress made in recent years in enhancing bilateral co-operation on those areas, including the attraction of significant US investments in Cyprus in many sectors of the economy, like Energy, Technology, Healthcare, Transportation, Real Estate and Renewable Energy, they also expressed their commitment to continue contributing constructively to the further growth of those ties.
The event was attended, amongst others, Ms. Panayiota Patsali, Director of Trade at the Ministry, Mr. Antonis Rouvas, Chief Executive Officer of Hellenic Bank, the Deputy Director at Invest Cyprus, Ms. Lia Riris, representatives of our annual sponsors (EcommBX, CABLENET, PWC, BAKER TILLY, HELLENIC BANK and KPMG), AmCham Cyprus’s past presidents, representatives of the US Embassy, as well as the vast majority of AmCham Cyprus’ BoD and corporate members.
